The mesh technology, stemming from military research, enables wireless equipment to be connected hop by hop in a dynamic and optimized way without any central hierarchy, constituting a netlike structure, hence its name ”MESH”. It is a disruptive technology compared to conventional and centralized wireless solutions with a base station. Mesh networks are self configuring, self healing and self tuned for simple, instant and cost effective wireless communications. LUCEOR solutions allow rapid, simplified and optimised deployment, high flexibility of network coverage, high tolerance to failures and interferences. Thus, they significantly reduce capital expenditure, setting up and operating costs. LUCEOR solutions also ensure continuity and quality of services on the move.
More information on wireless mesh networks can be found on Wikipedia.
To maintain the connectivity of its routers, LUCEOR chose to use OLSR mesh protocol (international standard - RFC 3626) and adds to it complementary functionalities. This protocol was developed by INRIA [1] (HIPERCOM project) within the IETF [2].
